I was recently approached and asked to review the new series of puzzles from Ravensburger – and as we love puzzles, I jumped at the chance.

Ravensburger are well known for their high quality puzzles; sturdy and with a glare free, cardboard and linen finish. They claim that no two pieces are alike and that you can feel their Softclick Technology in every piece. And this one didn’t let us down.

The premise of the “What If” puzzles is when things don’t go to plan or turn out the way you hoped… In this case, we received a wonderful festive scene (number 9 in the series) and were asked, “What if Santa and Rudolph swapped jobs?”

Rudolph is miffed that Santa gets treats of sherry and mince pies whilst the reindeer do all the hard work and they are just given carrots. Rudolph wishes he could take on Santa’s role  – and the finished image shows the comedic consequences of such an event happening, with Rudolph getting ‘stuck in’ to his new position…

Given that you’re not entirely sure what the image you’re working toward is, it’s a real challenge. There’s no point of reference – and to be honest, we all loved that.

It took us a few days to complete (a couple of hours spent here and there in the evening) and it is safe to say that this captured the imagination of everyone. My husband even joined in last night! It’s something that we’ve dipped in and out of, worked on together and talked. My tech-obsessed teenage boys have already expressed an interest in having more of these and I will definitely be looking at what we can do next.

“What If” has been a real unexpected joy!

*Ordinarily I would include a photo of the finished item – but given that the unknown image is all part of the charm of these, I’ve decided not to*

DISCLAIMER – We were kindly given this item free of charge, to review, but all words and opinions are my own
