There is a certain plastic construction brick that is incredibly popular – not just with our boys, but with the rest of the world, seemingly. So when we were sent Laser Pegs, I was curious as to how Munchkin would take to them.

In case you’ve never heard about Laser Pegs, they are the latest craze – colourful, transparent bricks that are compatible with the leading brand of brick. Once built, your imaginative model can be attached to a battery operated power pack via a small cable and the model lights up.

When I opened the box, I was surprised to discover that you don’t get all the bricks in all the sizes and in all of the colours… Each size brick comes in just one colour.

The instructions also threw me a little, as I’m used to colourful diagrams. However the Laser Peg instructions are in black and white.

Instead of building the model from beginning to end, you build parts then combine those together, BUT once you realise just how simple it all is, you can fly through the building of the Laser Pegs in no time at all.

Our box builds 12 models – and you get printed instructions for one model (an Indy Car) inside the box and all the other instructions are available via the app – available for Android and iPhone. I installed the app on my iPad and found it to be incredibly clear, building the second design (a mini monster truck) in no time.

The building process is so simple and the final creation can simply attach to the power base, then you can choose a slow flash, a rapid flash or constant light which makes it all come to life. Munchkin is delighted with this set and we’re currently working our way through the app.

The Laser Pegs ranges are available from Amazon, Argos and other leading toy stockists and I am sure that they will be the next ‘must-have’ toy on every child’s wish list!
