Weekends are such a busy time in the sixdegrees household but this weekend was all about celebrating family.
On Saturday we celebrated my nephew’s 12th birthday. AND his little sister’s first birthday! (That is awesome planning on my sister’s part).
On Sunday, as he had homework, reading and spellings, I promised Munchkin that we could make cakes when he was finished. He loves helping out in the kitchen and I feel it’s so important that he not only learns some kitchen skills early on but also that he – like his big brothers – understands more about food.
Persil have launched a ‘Cook With The Kids‘ campaign to encourage parents to get their children involved in cooking – and not to worry about the mess until later! By purchasing a promotional pack of Persil washing up liquid, parents can collect points which can be exchanged for cookery gifts such as aprons, hats, whisks and cake cases.
Munchkin was so excited when he saw everything! He couldn’t wait to dress up and be a chef.
He took great delight in weighing out the ingredients (great maths work) and whisking them up.
Then he carefully poured the mixture into 6 cake cases and I put them into the oven.
He then spent the next 12 minutes constantly asking if they were ready, if they were burnt, if he could look at them, if I could look at them…
Once I removed them, we let them cool and he iced them *proud face photo*
Do you get your children involved in the kitchen? What skills do they have?
*DISCLAIMER – I would like to thank Persil for sending Munchkin a goodie bag so that we could get involved in this campaign*
