We love gadgets and ‘technical’ toys so when Hexbug asked us if we would like to try out their new Aquabots, we were delighted.

Aquabots is a range of aquatic creatures that feature ‘smart fish technology’. The colourful fish have a Tap On Tank sensor which wakes them up – and joining the fish are zombie fish, incredible jellyfish, remote control fish and my favourite, seahorses.

So it was with great excitement that I Munchkin unpacked the box to find a seahorse!

We had a quick read of the instructions, set up our tank and lowered in the new inhabitant.

Munchkin loves watching the seahorse swim around the tank, changing directions and seeing the fin flapping and would like a jellyfish to keep it company.

I really like these too. The body is translucent so you can see the internal robotics and it lights up. Munchkin has it in his bedroom – but thankfully it switches off automatically after 5 minutes which means the light isn’t keeping him awake and the battery doesn’t drain quickly.

And the best thing about them is if Munchkin gets a little tired of it, we can pack it away for a few weeks then get it out again in the future. And it doesn’t need feeding; another advantage over real fish!

Aquabots are available direct from the Hexbug website and from all good toy retailers and start at £7.99
