Now that the weather is getting warmer, we’re planning more trips out. And we’re rather partial to a picnic.

Sandwiches.

Fruit.

Biscuits.

Chips and dips.

But my boys are also huge fans of the dieters’ nemesis: snacking.

As we’re vegetarian, we don’t eat chewy sweets (gelatine is the bane of my life, I’m constantly checking ingredient labels for the pesky boiled bones) but my boys do like a sweet treat. And we’ve recently discovered Real Handful, tasty and nutritious trail mix snacks.

Available in 6 flavours: Mixed Berry Crunch, Blueberry Blitz, Go-Go-Goji Berries, Blood Orange & Dark Choc, Strawberries & Cream and Mochaccino, what I really like about these is the chewy fruit; having tried other mixes, quite often they are bulked out with raisins but Real Handful soak raisins in fruit juice to make them super tasty and the dehydrated strawberries are like chewy sweets rather than the powdery, chalky offerings we have tried previously.

They are available in handy little grab bags – perfect for a day trip or popping in your bag for a healthy treat with your lunch at work.

And if like us, you are a fan of this type of fuel, they are available from Holland & Barrett and online through Ocado.

Another great discovery this week is a fat free, sugar free yogurt from Danone.

They come in 5 different flavours: cherry, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and peach-passionfruit and average 55 calories per pot.

I tried the cherry and it was delicious; thick and luxurious and full of cherry flavour and fruit pieces. There was a very slight after-taste but I didn’t mind that at all. And I felt really full afterwards, which is always a good thing!

These yogurts are available in all good supermarkets and retail for £2.50 for 4 – which I think is a little high but they are really convenient for taking out and about.
